Heavenly Moment

~ she dances in the meadow with the wildflowers

I can almost remember the smell.

It is there, so close.

If I close my eyes, it is almost there. It is there in memory, which is almost there.

Oh, but she was so small.

A tiny little head tucked sleeping under my chin. A tiny little body warm against my chest. I could feel the strong, puttering heart, tip-tap, tip-tap, tip-tapping.

I bent my head forward to the silken, shiny black crown of hair and breathed in deeply.

Oh, the smell. Her smell.

It was so unnatural to me.

Not unnatural.

Unfamiliar.

Unworldly.

Heavenly.

A new mother had been born.

Love had written a new form of existence in my world.

And I smiled.
