A metaphorical piece about confinement, silence, and the stubborn act of still writing from within it.
I Live Within a Coffin
I live within a coffin
The walls are closing in
While all the world is laughing
I can’t breathe, I’m giving in
I live within a coffin
The casket doubly staked
Can’t tell anyone I’m sorry
Can’t scream that I’m awake
I pound against the silence
But no one hears the sound
My breath is thin, my spirit caged
Six feet beneath the ground
I live inside a silence
Where even echoes die
Where prayers don’t reach my lips
And hope just makes me cry
I used to love the morning
A dawn that broke night’s curse
But buried in this satin womb
The silence makes it worse
I live within a coffin
But in my head, I write
Scratching truths against the lid
In absence of the light
