Forward Momentum
It’s not that the shadows aren’t there. It’s that they don’t get my attention the Way that they used to.
If I keep turning back to stare at them, how will I ever walk forward toward anything I want?
When my eyes are fixed on the past, I’m guaranteed to trip, stumble, and miss the goals, dreams, and hopes waiting in front of me.
The past is familiar, and it has had its way with me before. But it does not get to direct my compass any longer. I don’t dismiss it. I don’t pretend it didn’t happen. It just doesn’t get to make my choices anymore.
I move forward because I choose to.
And even though the past called out to me, I turned the other way and took one small, steady step into my future.
And as always, I smile.
